Leading from the Heart

We love putting on a spectacular show, but equally important to us are our core values. Nothing beats seeing our students transform their self-confidence, build collaborative skills, and up their creative thinking.

For over 30 years, we’ve strived to nurture a community that is warm, kind, and supportive. OST is a space where both adults and kids learn that it’s ok to make mistakes (in fact, we celebrate mistakes, because that’s how we all learn!).

Most of all, we’re a space that puts love first — whether we’re on stage or out in the world.

Teen Intensives

We’ve been sitting on this for a while and can’t wait to share the news with you. We are hosting a special intensive this summer where teens age 13 through 17 will stage a play in one week! Students will get the chance to experience how Production and Design teams work right alongside the actors who bring the characters to life.

Testimonials

"Kind, caring, organised, professional, creative, encouraging, respectful, empowering, inspiring!! Can't say enough good things about this place and the people who make it work. If you are new to the world of theater, this is a wonderfully supportive place to make a start." -Sarah Qualman

"I've learned so many skills from OST — I used to hate going up in front of my class and talking, but now it’s one of my favourite things!" -Max Frederick

I first started taking classes at OYPTS (now the Ottawa School of Theatre) when I was 11 years old, and I am still involved with the organization well over 2 decades later. I can honestly say that it changed the course of my life. I met many lifelong friends and learned valuable lessons about working as a team. The atmosphere at the Ottawa School of Theatre is one of acceptance, inclusion and positivity. I would highly recommend getting involved!

"The whole team works together to create a production, and everyone is important. It truly gives one a sense of belonging.  " -Biz MacDonald

"I first got involved with the Ottawa School of Theatre about five years ago, when we moved back to Canada from Barbados. [The school] really helped me feel more at home, because I didn't know anybody when we moved. It gave me a second family, you could say — people that I knew, and I could be myself around." -Suriya LaChance
