Leading from the Heart

We love putting on a spectacular show, but equally important to us are our core values. Nothing beats seeing our students transform their self-confidence, build collaborative skills, and up their creative thinking.

For over 30 years, we’ve strived to nurture a community that is warm, kind, and supportive. OST is a space where both adults and kids learn that it’s ok to make mistakes (in fact, we celebrate mistakes, because that’s how we all learn!).

Most of all, we’re a space that puts love first — whether we’re on stage or out in the world.

Testimonials

“When I first started at OST, I was incredibly shy and lacked confidence in myself. However, through taking their classes and camps, OST helped me get out of my shell, gain confidence in myself, and find my voice. I have so many great memories of my time at OST and have made countless friends. OST isn’t just an organization, but a community.”

-Julia Zuppa, teen student and volunteer

“The opportunity that OST provides to be both an educator and an artist is such a unique and rewarding experience. As students go year to year with new teachers, they get a much more diverse and well-rounded education, since we can give them real-world experience and knowledge.”

-Michelle Gendron, Teaching Artist

“OST programming has given my daughters confidence when they didn’t have it. They aren’t afraid to speak in class and can interact with people of all ages in a meaningful way.”

-Aileen Martella, parent and Board member

“As a parent of a child taking classes at OST I have seen my daughter grow in confidence and truly gain a sense of belonging. She has made lasting friendships and gained such great experience through the direction of several amazing teachers at OST. As a volunteer, and office assistant I have seen a group of diverse kids, all enjoy and thrive here at OST. It is such an inclusive environment that truly allows all ages, backgrounds, and learning styles to shine.”

-Lauren Nixon, parent, volunteer, and office staff

“As OST continues to grow, I can’t help but appreciate the school’s attention and focus on community. Though the theatre arts, and its fundamentals, are clearly priorities for OST, they continue to support the general energy, well being and involvement within and for the Ottawa community: families play, kids gain confidence, social circles extend, live theatre breeds life and magic. As a former teacher with OST, I now have the benefit of seeing my own daughter lit up by theatre through the interactions, opportunities and diversity OST nurtures within itself and for the community.”

-Samantha Leclair, past student, past teacher, parent, volunteer
